Scholarships I Applied To
Going to study abroad presents a lot of challenges for students, especially money problems. Some people may need to work harder than others, but everything just comes down to how much effort you're willing to put into it. For me, studying abroad was my choice, therefore I had to find a way to fund myself without much of my parents' support. Here are two scholarships that I recommend you apply for:
-
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship – up to $6,000
-
Shilder College of Business Travel Scholarship – up to $6,000
-
STAR Scholarships – selective; results provided after 2-3 months.
Gilman
This scholarship is for students in need of financial aid and are a citizen or national of the United States. The organization supports students studying abroad to many different countries. In my opinion, competition is really high for this scholarship, but persisting and putting your honest thoughts into the essay would help. It's not as hard as college applications🤭. There are 3 write-ups that you will need to complete. Here is the LINK to the Gilman website.
Shidler Travel
If you are a student going into business at UH Manoa in the Shidler Business School, you should apply for this scholarship. This scholarship is more than enough for students to spend money, especially if studying in Asia. However, when you apply for this scholarship, it is important to be an active member in the International Business Organization Club (before or after abroad) as well as submit documents when you come back. Here is the LINK to the instructions.
Star Scholarships
You can apply for these scholarships as a UH Manoa student, but depending on your major you can receive different funding. This application is the easiest process of the three. Just fill out the application once by the deadline, but do make sure you meet the requirements. The application will sign you up for all the ones STAR thinks you are applicable to. These usually start in the beginning of each school year. Here is the LINK to the login.
